The 2018 programme kicks off with a highly entertaining and fast-paced journey through the history of jazz, as festival favourite Pete Long and The Jazz Repertory Company present ‘100 years of Jazz in 99 minutes’ featuring vocalist Georgina Jackson.

World class headline acts throughout the week are funk master saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown), multi-award winning vocalists Liane Carroll & Ian Shaw with a specially created latin-american tinged show, virtuoso pianist Gwilym Simcock with Russian bassist Yuri Goloubev, Clark Tracey’s new Quintet featuring BBC Young Musician Jazz Award winning trumpeter Alexandra Ridout, outstanding rising talent Elliot Galvin and giant heritage ensemble ‘Brotherhood of Breath’ celebrating the swinging South African sound of the great Chris McGregor.

Proceedings close on Saturday 27th January with The Kansas Smitty’s Big Four (with special guest vocalist Joe Stilgoe) a high energy band currently enthralling London with their mash of genres: Kansas City Jazz, New Orleans Funk, Trad, Swing, Blues and even a splash of Avant-Garde.

Most events will include an intimate ‘Meet the Artist’ session in a relaxed Q&A before the concert and Gwilym Simcock’s ‘An Audience With’ performance will include a seated buffet meal prepared by local chefs using locally sourced ingredients.

Alongside our popular ‘Jazz for Juniors’ workshop, there will be a specially commissioned series of toddler events with new songs written and presented by Brighton based singer/songwriter Joe Stilgoe and actress/director Katie Beard.

Free foyer events, film screenings and vocal and instrumental workshops augment the programme and full line-up details and dates will be released shortly along with news of an ‘Early Bird’ ticket offer to run in October.
